Black Rapid Straps

Ok, so the next great thing in camera straps are here!  At least, that’s what I’ve been told.  Seriously, they look pretty cool.  If you carry more than one digital camera at once, the new Black Rapid DR-1 Double Strap is THE ticket for you.  It allows you to carry the bodies handsfree.  If you have long lenses, you can connect them by the tripod collars and hang them by your sides.  For just one camera body, the RS-4 will still keep your hands and neck free, holds two extra flash memory cards, and allows you to carry all the extra digital camera accessories your hands and shoulders can carry!  Come in and check them out today!

Black Rapid In Store.

Well, not “in store” as in “here on shelves ready to be mailed to your eager mailbox” but rather “in store” as in “it’s coming summer blockbuster teaser.” It happened quietly and while you all weren’t looking (ie, last week when Jody couldn’t approve my posts), we became a dealer of Black Rapid R-style quick straps. Now, if you live under the rock we call “the internet” you know what these are and are basically jittering in anticipation. If you don’t know what they are, however, you’ll be best served by watching the video below, from their creator:

Now, those are the old style clips, they’re shipping which much nicer and better designed clips these days. Don’t believe me? Check’em out.

Quick Release Camera Straps

So, I just finished working on a web ad for the D700 Nikon digital SLR camera, and I was taking a breather and fiddling over my much loved E-3 Olympus digital camera. using live view to explore under my desk, and I noticed the little quick release connects for my strap and thought to myself “Aha! Story time!”

Quick Release Connectors
So, I rooted through my bag and realized I’d forgotten the strap itself at home. Sooo, I journeyed down to our sales floor and grabbed a new Tamrac Boomerang strap off a shelf. Now, I’m not a fan of camera straps, using them only in a transport capacity more than a carry around one, but I did feel it worth upgrading my stock camera strap to one of these. Why? Quick releases.

Also among the things I hate, as a few of you early readers might remember, are tripods. So, whenI have to use a tripod (like the Bogen Manfrotto tripods I use for some of my blog shots) and have my camera strap dangling in the way, getting caught on crank levers and under the ball head, well, you can just imagine my frustrations. So, quick releases. Right near the camera, this strap has two heavy plastic snap buckles. A good pinch and there we go! No more annoying camera strap. This is far superior to the more traditional approach. You know the one:

Quick Release, Wide Shot“OK, so, I think this threads through here, and then I, wait, yeah, I put it through that bit there, and then up and… wait, down? Aaaaargh!”

No more of that for me. Click. Snap. Happy.

New Powershot Canons

Well I just un-boxed and sampled three new Canon Powershot Cameras. The first one out of the box ‘so to speak’ was the new Powershot A1000 IS which comes in 4 two-tone color schemes; Gray, Blue, Brown and Purple. At 10.0 megapixels, with a 4x optical zoom and image stabilazer plus a 2.5 inch screen this camera is sure to be a crowd pleaser, and at only $199.97 it is sure to be a winner.
A2000 IS image.Pictured above, the second new offering I got to sample this morning is the A1000′s big brother the Powershot A2000 IS with the same 10.0 megapixel resolution, but a longer 6x optical zoom and a larger 3″ LCD screen.  The extra reach and viewing capabilities only add $50.00 more to the sticker making this another value at $249.97. The A2000 only comes in 2 tone-gray.
Finally the third Canon Digital Powershot Camera to grace our display cases today is the SX110 IS, thiner than it’s predecesor SX100 IS, and higher resolution at 9.0 megapixel this camera will give you the reach for youth sports, wildlife or anything that is too far away to frame the way you want. The tag for the SX110 IS is only $279.97, well below the average for long zoom lens shutter cameras.
As you would expect with Canon lenses the image quality is terrific. All three will accept the newer SD/HC memory cards for improved speed and better movie playback, incorporate motion dectection technologies, and utilize the Digic III processor which also adorns the big gun Canon digital DSLR Cameras.
All three models use SD memory cards, AA or rechargable NiMH AA batteries, have standard camera tripod mounts and hand straps.
If you are looking for a travel sized digital camera with a longer than the mainstream 3x zoom lens you should take these new models for a test drive.
