November 5th, 2009 by Derek
Finally, a new videocast demoing the, ahem, raw speed of Sandisk’s new Extreme Pro series CF cards, rating a massive 90 megabytes per second sustainable write speed. Yowza. What’s that mean in the real world? Why not watch the video?
Raw Footage and the Lensbaby Composer
September 28th, 2009 by Derek
A Friday special, from the dark corners of our footage folder, the Lensbaby Composer! Representing the newest of Lensbaby’s optical solutions the Composer features a ball-joint method for orienting the “sweet spot” and a true barrel-focus system, along with their new swappable optics (which we move to call ’swaptics,’ you can have that off us, Lensbaby) which let you choose how much toy camera effect you want your Lensbaby to yield.
Raw Footage and the Coolpix S1000pj
September 25th, 2009 by Derek
While we wait on Carel’s review of it to come in, we got a Nikon Coolpix S1000pj into the hands of good old Nick, who took some test shots so we can show you the exciting new built-in projector (we had to keep the room dark, forgive the video quality in spots).
New Product: Nikon Coolpix S1000PJ IN STOCK NOW
September 25th, 2009 by NickIn what situations will a tiny LED projector built into your Coolpix be useful? Here’s a few I can conjure:
1.) Massive In-Person Multi-User Chimping -two kinds
First: Set your D300s to shoot RAW to the CF slot and JPEG to the SDHC slot and shoot a while on your project, stop long enough to swap the SDHC card into the PJ and review your work with your assistants and models using the included remote control and plastic stand and durn near any available wall.
Second: Line up your folks, their folks, and all the running progeny long enough to get a group shot before they get food all over their nice, holiday clothes then keep taking pictures until everyone’s too loaded on tryptophan and football to complain when you shut off the lights and set up the PJ for everyone to enjoy.
2.) Presentations: Since various office softwares can save presentations as JPEG images and the S1000PJ can display any JPEG image on the SDHC card, create your slideshow and save it down as a numbered series of JPEGs, load them on the SDHC card and you’ve a presentation in your pocket.
A variation: Touring a production line take your reference shots, makes your notes, and you now you have an instant visual aid to your meeting or presentation.
3.) While waiting for the rescue helicopter turn on the projector and point it at the sky -all 10 lumens might be the difference between getting eaten by a python and getting spotted.
Scoot over to our page on youtube to check out our Raw Footage installment on the PJ.
We’re expecting soon to see a hands-on review of the S1000PJ from Carel Struycken. In the mean-time, I’d like your commentary on the uses of the PJ.
Raw Footage and the Nikon D300s

Nick and Derek take a moment in the Bag Jungle ™ to demo the new Nikon D300s, and play around with it’s shiny new HD movie recording and how it works with AF, especially.
Photowalk – Success!
August 12th, 2009 by NickThings went rather well. The weather cooperated, so I didn’t need to use my rainsleeve. And even though I managed to convince everyone to park something like, nine miles from the shooting sites, everyone seemed pretty pleased with the outcome. Above, you’ll see our volunteer model Erin, framed by two voice activated light stands with Tony’s elbow poking in from the side.
Later on we’ll have footage to put on the Roberts Imaging channel on youtube, and as Derek and I filter through and spruce up our shots we’ll get them added to the Flickr feed for y’all to ogle and mock. Dawn’s got some pretty neat shots (and some hilarity) from the fish-eye she borrowed off Jeff.
We’ll be having another informal walk on Tuesday, August 18th about 5:45pm at the corner of Illinois and Washington (kinda by Champp’s, under the Artsgarden) and if the weather get’s nasty we’ll head inside. We’re working to arrange another model to come out and hang with us as that seems pretty popular. I know I get tired of shooting Derek.
Photowalk with Jeff Penn of Nikon Aug. 11th
August 6th, 2009 by Nick
ZOMG! Photowalk!
Here we go, Photowalkers. We’ve missed you. We’re looking to stop missing you come Tuesday, August 11th at 6:00p. You’ll get to hob-nob with our very own Jeff Penn of Nikon, who’ll be bringing some gear we can pass around.
What do you need to bring? Well, your kit and a spare CF card and maybe a friend, a tolerant spouse, or a volunteer model. (For the lucky, I guess that’s be all one person. )
We’ll meet at The Circle at 6p and all take a walk up Meridian to one of the lovely parks north of The Circle and use up the scenery with Nikon’s Creative Lighting System.
Remember that these are welcome to everyone and any camera system or device. We like taking pictures, and we like it when you take pictures. Heck, my girlfriend brings a flip and shoots video.
See you there.
Drop me a line at nhenry at robertsimaging.com if you’ve questions or comments.
