Canon’s brand new L zooms -EF 8-15 f/4L and EF 70-300 f/4.5-5.6L IS USM

All new from Canon comes the EF 70-300 f/4-5.6L IS USM, jumping right to the four-stop IS compensation tech and a minimally described
function that prevents erroneous operation when the lens is mounted on a tripod or monopod
-so I’m curious about whether it’s an “ON/OFF” switch or some hyper-intelligent artificial life-form that subsists in the flourite lens elements or the Flourine coating. We’ll see what our technical rep Brian Matsumoto says. It’s also got the dust and water resistant design of the other lenses we’ve discussed today.
The other new lens is an 8-15mm Fisheye Zoom. That’s delightful – a six inch close focusing distance, as fast an aperture as you’d expect from a fisheye, and 180 degree diagonal angle of view for APS-C and Full Frame formats. The EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM also features
a new fluorine anti-smear coating is applied to the front and rear elements to make lens cleaning easier than ever.
Which should bring some reassurance to the folks accustomed to putting protector filters on their lenses.

Sony NEX-3 is here…with fisheye!!!!

So….we finally received the production models of the Sony NEX-3 cameras.  In both 16 2.8 and 18-55 kit configurations.  We also got a very cool accessory along with it.  A fisheye adapter that bayonets onto the 16 2.8  Twist, click, and start shooting!

The 720p HD video mode in AVCHD is none too shabby either.  Check it out below.  The focus and exposure do impress.  Did I mention the fisheye adapter is only $150?

Panasonic DMC-FX75

A new fisheye wasn’t all Panasonic had up their sleeves today, there’s also this little gem. The LUMIX DMC-FX75 is a 5x wide-angle zoom (starting at 24mm equiv.) with a fancy f2.2 starting aperture (although it slides down to f5.9 on the long end). You’re looking at 14 and change megapixels, and a 3″ touchscreen with touch-to-focus to round out that lens, not a bad compliment.

Panasonic has gotten into a groove of releasing incredibly competent and well-round shooters with good image quality, so, pending hands-on critiques we have no reason to suspect this’ll be anything but an enticing choice at its price point, whatever that might end up being. We’ll give you more word as we know more ourselves.

The Panasonic LUMIX G Fisheye 8mm/F3.5 lens

Panasonic has today announced another lens for the ever growing Micro Four Thirds system: a fisheye. These specialty optics, famous of course for that odd fishbowl distortion and their super extra wide range of viewing. This particular entry sports a 180° field of view. No idea on when it’ll be out yet, but all you fisheye shooters can wait anxiously now.

From the press release:

SECAUCUS, NJ (June 1, 2010) – Today, Panasonic introduced the LUMIX G Fisheye 8mm/F3.5 lens, the H-F008, with a 35mm camera equivalent 16mm lens, the world’s smallest and lightest* digital interchangeable fisheye lens compatible with the LUMIX G Series, DSL Micro (DSLM) cameras.

Featuring a 180-degree diagonal angle view, the LUMIX G Fisheye 8mm/F3.5 lens offers a distinctive perspective and unique deformation effect, creating a creative view for both photos and video. Additionally, its compact size can be attributed to its ten lenses in nine groups, which takes advantage of the Micro Four Thirds system standard to achieve dramatic downsizing.
