Canon’s New Bottom Line: The Powershot A800

Well, here’s one you probably never expected, Canon today has announced a quartet of new A-series point-and-shoots, and they start out with a retail price of $89.97. Yup, finally dropped under 100 clam for a brand-new compact camera. Sure, it’s pretty run-of-the-mill, 3.3x optical zoom, 10 megapixels, a 2.5″ LCD, AA power and ISO up to 1600. No really eye-turning features, except the price tag. Canon’s A series, while once a clear sign you were getting a camera that ran on AA’s (those waters have been muddied by a few A cameras with proprietary packs now), now represents Canon’s budget line. But, they’re also extremely well-liked across the board and have proven reliable shooters for countless generations. So, if not memorable, the A800 promises to be at the least quite competent. And cheap, did we mention cheap?

And look, more pictures! Well, after the jump, anyway.

Area Photographer Reviews PocketWizard TT1, TT5 for Nikon

Area photographer, Roller Derby / WFTDA aficionado, and Roberts customer, Mark Lebryk has blogged his hands-on experience with the PocketWizard TT1 and TT5 sync units for Nikon flashes. Mosey on over there to check out his impressions.

Please note that we’ve been waiting about 2 years for these bad-boys, and that we won’t have ‘em until we have ‘em, and that pre-ordering them on our website gets your name put in line – it doesn’t guarantee you a product. Once we have them in stock in quantities to satisfy out back-orders, we’ll put them up for sale online.

In the mean-time, check out Mark’s write-up and think about what you wanna use these TT1 and TT5 units for.

New Local Photo Class, Basic Photo 102

Well everybody, it’s a brand-new year, and we’ve just officially added a new photo class for all of you in the Indy area (define that however you want, we’re just saying that we only hold these classes in Indy. If you’re in Chicago and feel like making the drive, we’ll gladly count that as in the Indy area. Same for LA and catching a flight, but that seems a bit extreme.)

Anyway, we’ve finally added a Basic Photo 102 to our offered classes. Obviously intended as a follow-up to our Basic Photo 101, in 102 we’ll help you understand DSLR lenses and crop factor, and the advantages and disadvantages inherent in that system.

The cost for this class is $15 a person, and it will run about 2 hours whenever we offer it. The next session is Wed February 16 at 6:30pm. More information and how to reserve you a seat can be found at http://robertscamera.com/classes
