See this bit of sexiness right here? That’s the Kodak Zi8 (go ahead, click it and see it larger). To not dance delicately around the issue, it’s Kodak’s answer to the wildly popular Flip video camera. It’s got one-touch recording, full 1080p HD capture, a 2.5″ screen, flip-out USB plug, streamlined uploading to YouTube, you name it.
It’s also got 4x digital zoom, takes 5mp 16:9 still images, and records to SD/SDHC cards. And, in macro mode it has a minimum focusing distance of about 6″.
And, for right now, you can pick one up in a special Roberts kit with the wireless remote control and a free Tamrac ouch for, oh, $129.97. That’s 50 bucks less than Kodak’s MSRP for the camera by itself!
Seriously, this is a huge deal. If you need a quick, easy way to record videos for Facebook and YouTube, well, you’re looking at it. But, the kits are really, really limited, so, uh, act fast?

Head to head this could kick Flips butt however I just can’t figure out why they wouldn’t include more built-in memory? It’s like selling a printer without the USB cable – bad for user experience. BTW I added a link to your store from my blog – that is how much I love the expired film rack at the Carmel store.
Actually, PK, it’s a bit more like selling a camera without film. Or a camera without a memory card. Or camcorder without an SD card. I’d complain more about it if it wasn’t already such common practice. Sony’s Webbies also needed a memory card, I recall.
Still, it shows just how successful the Flip has been that we’re all a bit confused that the memory isn’t built-in, you know?
Derek – I was assuming that Kodak was going after Flip. If that is the case you at least need to match or exceed specs which I think Kodak does. However many consumers just want fewer things to worry and carry. The Flip does that with its built in memory and battery. I have a Canon Vixia HD Camera but thinking about getting a smaller video camera for quick shoot/upload work. May be I should take a closer look at the Kodak as well.
Also, thanks for the link over. I added your blog to my daily feeds, so don’t be surprised if you show up as a source link from time to time.
