The Voice of Raw: Chimping Exposed
September 17th, 2009 by DerekNikon Coolpix S70: That’s a Good Lens
September 17th, 2009 by DerekSo, we heard the occasional murmur that Nikon’s last series of Coolpix may or may not have had sharp lenses. Well, we know for certain that’s not the case with the shared 28mm 5x zoom on their new series. We were testing the S1000pj and the S70 today and woah, those suckers have good little lenses for point-and-shoots. Really good. Don’t believe us? We shot the pic below from a magazine in the classroom, with the S70 in macro mode. Check out the detail in that crop, it got the printing ink and the irregularities in the newsprint. Very impressive show, Nikon. Very impressive.
Don Giannatti Lays It Straight and Calls Out Excuses For Not Taking Photos For The Excuses They Are
September 17th, 2009 by Derek
In what started out as a list of “10 Nifty, Excellent Excuses For Failing At Photography”, and which has now grown to 11, photographer Don Giannatti (whose site is really full of wonderful information and pretty girls), sets out a lot of the top excuses you might hear pros or aspiring pros using during these bad times and calls them for the load of crap they are.
As we’ve mentioned before, keeping you shooting and in business is, honestly, in our best interest. Making sure you have what you need is kinda our thing, so it helps if you keep needing things. In that spirit, get over to Don’s site, read his list, and decide to get our there, market yourself, and find some business.
Shoo!

Panasonic Updates Firmware For G1, GH1, 45-200mm Lens
September 17th, 2009 by Derek
Panasonic has announced some new firmwares. The one for the lens reports it should bring better continuous AF performance and improved IS in movie mode to the table, the camera ones… well, let’s quote the wise-and-almight DPReview:
Panasonic has posted firmware updates for its DMC-GH1 and DMC-G1 Micro Four-Thirds cameras. Both updates improve autofocus performance in low contrast conditions and the stability of auto exposure (AE) for the recently released Panasonic Leica 45mm F2.8 Macro lens. The GH1 firmware v1.2 also decreases the AF operation sound of the 20mm F1.7 pancake lens for quieter video recording.
Thank you, DPReview.
